HVAC teacher Mike Veeder leads OSHA 10-Hour training at CGEC in Hudson.
As part of Questar III’s goal to help students be college and career ready, all CTE programs offer opportunities for students to earn professional certifications that are recognized as industry standards. Training in one of those certifications began this week as first-year students in Construction Technology, Building Trades, Information Technology, Welding and HVAC/Renewable Energies work towards their OSHA 10-Hour Card. The OSHA 10-Hour Construction Card provides workers with basic training about common safety and health hazards on the job.
“Starting off the year with OSHA training ensures that students will be learning proper safety procedures right from the beginning, and it instills a sense of confidence that they have made a good choice in attending their Questar III CTE Program,” said Veeder.
Students are very proud to complete this course and also share their accomplishment with other staff. Portfolio Coordinator Lakia Walker agrees. “When I am working with students on their resumes and they are discussing skills to be included, they will actually take the official OSHA card out of their wallets to show me that this is a professional, well-respected certification for their field. It is obvious that they believe it is one of the first steps to success in their future careers, and that is why a copy is included in their respective portfolios.”
After CGEC students receive their training, Mr. Veeder will also offer the training to students at the Rensselaer Educational Center.
