Questar III’s Maureen Squier poses with Jayli Capasso from Berlin CSD. Jayli placed second.

Questar III BOCES hosted the 35th Annual Juried High School Art Exhibit at its main offices in Castleton, NY on Tuesday, April 16, 2024. Thirty-two artists representing ten area school districts and two Questar III schools submitted pieces for the show.

Averill Park CSD student Mikayla Malenfant received first place for her piece, “Let the Light In”.

Returning for her second year as a juror, Susan Grybas, a retired art teacher from Chatham Central School District, was tasked with reviewing each art piece. While she was unable to attend the reception, she left the following message for the student artists:

“Creating art is an affirmation of our humanity, a celebration of a shared world. This display of artwork demonstrates what incredible artistic talent there is in our school communities. We celebrate these young artists and their hard work. In addition, we appreciate and acknowledge the families and teachers, who encourage them.

“This exhibit demonstrates the use of various styles and interesting materials in drawing, painting, photography as well as clay and felt. A theme that plays throughout many of the pieces is – the eyes, whether they are human or animal, open or closed… an important image and symbol. The artist’s eyes experience this world and then incorporate their experiences in their artistic expression.

“May this exhibit and gathering today further support each artists’ continued exploration and development of their own individual form of expression. Each piece here is celebrated. This exhibit gives us the opportunity to enjoy each work of art’s beauty and message. Congratulations!”
