John E. Sackett Educational Center
Parents, Family, & Friends:
Happy September! I hope that everyone had a wonderful summer and are excited about the transition back to school.
My name is Karen Brockley and I am the principal of the Therapeutic Youth Program (TYP) here at Sackett Educational Center, where we offer numerous therapeutic supports to our students throughout their school day. In the TYP students work towards their Regents Diplomas and Career Development and Occupational Studies (CDOS) Credential through a variety of classes and electives as well as work based opportunities for students out in the community. The program also offers students the opportunity to be a part of clubs within the building demonstrating their interests in various areas.
Here at Sackett we emphasize the importance of social and emotional health for all of our students. We work with our school-based support system including our therapists and social workers to develop coping strategies and techniques for students through therapy as well as our Positive Behavioral Intervention Systems (PBIS). Within the school day, students are part of a homeroom team that allows the students a place to start and end their day, as well as check-in mid-day. Our teachers strive to develop curriculum and lessons that are technology based and innovative to student learning. The teachers’ utilize both their backgrounds in core academic areas as well as their knowledge of student needs.
I look forward to working with you and your student encouraging them to learn and grow throughout the school year.
