Dr. Bill Daggett speaks to administrators and educators about AI during his keynote address.

On Wednesday, February 28, 2024, the Questar III BOCES School Improvement team hosted an exclusive event titled “Creating a Positive Culture That Prepares Students for their Future NOT Our Past.” This event brought together four-person teams of administrators and teachers from schools within the Questar III BOCES region. The day-long seminar aimed to equip participants with the skills and insights needed to maximize the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on instruction. Renowned speaker and author Dr. Bill Daggett, founder of the Successful Practices Network and the International Center for Leadership in Education, delivered a keynote address focusing on the importance of embracing AI as an ally in education rather than viewing it as a challenge.

Adam Moler, a middle school social studies teacher from Ohio, presenting one of the breakout sessions to a full room.

Throughout the event, attendees engaged in discussions and breakout sessions facilitated by Dr. Daggett and colleagues from the Successful Practices Network. These sessions covered topics such as the benefits and skepticism surrounding AI, strategies for building a future-focused educational culture, and practical applications of AI in school leadership and instruction. Participants also had the opportunity to explore sandboxing activities aimed at personalizing the AI experience for school leaders and designing systemwide plans to integrate AI into everyday practices.

One of the key takeaways from the event was the potential of AI to revolutionize various aspects of education, from personalized learning to administrative tasks such as developing master schedules, Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), and lesson plans. By embracing AI technologies as collaborative tools rather than disruptions, educators can free up time and resources to focus on fostering a positive learning environment that prepares students for the future.

The event welcomed representatives from a total of 15 school districts and Questar III’s Special Education and Career and Technical Education schools, highlighting the widespread interest and commitment to exploring the role of AI in education.
