Questar III BOCES students from Marilyn A. Noonan School at Durham participated in their first Future Farmers of America (FFA) district competition. On February 24, 2024, six students traveled to Pine Plains Central School District for the District Two competition, with four advancing to substates.
Students competed in various leadership development events, including Employability Skills, Senior Creed Speaking, Senior People in Ag, and Senior Prepared Public Speaking. With each of the twelve categories, students were required to give a memorized speech or presentation to a panel of three judges. With some categories having over thirty participants, the events were competitive and challenging.
The top 8 contestants from each competition are invited to compete at substates. Congratulations to the four students who have advanced to the next competition to be held March 16, 2024 at Windsor Central School District:
- Adrianna Moon, Agriculture Science, Catskill CSD – Senior People in Ag – 2nd Place
- Chelsey Carlson, Agriculture Science, Catskill CSD – Senior Creed Speaking – 4th Place
- Lorna Pigott, Agriculture Science, Coxsackie-Athens CSD – Senior Prepared Public Speaking – 4th Place
- Hannah Ferrer, Agriculture Science, Germantown CSD – Senior Prepared Public Speaking – 8th Place
The judges were very impressed with the student’s work, noting how the chapter is in its first year and this was the student’s first competition.
Questar III BOCES Agriculture Science Teacher and FFA Chapter Advisor Cassie Monaco said, “I am beyond proud of all these students have accomplished and look forward to seeing how they continue to grow.”
