The Questar III BOCES School Library System hosted school librarians and educators at Coxsackie-Athens High School Library on January 17, 2024, for a professional development session called “Innovate, Integrate, Lead: School Librarians at the Forefront of the AI Revolution”. Sponsored by the School Library System Association of New York (SLSA), the event was also broadcast, giving school librarians across the state access to this professional development, which focused on learning more about AI and its best practices.

Dr. Christopher Harris launched the event with a keynote presentation, followed by a guided, hands-on practice with various AI platforms. Tali Horowitz from Common Sense Media and Laura Ogando from New York City Public Schools presented “How Do I Prepare My Students and Families for the World of AI?”, and a panel discussion with four librarians from across the state sharing how they have integrated AI into their library programs rounded out the presentations.

The workshop concluded with SLSA President Dr. Jen Canell’s announcement of LibraryReady.AI, a groundbreaking initiative integrating artificial intelligence, media literacy, and information fluency into New York State’s school libraries.
