Questar III BOCES announced Patricia Wood as the recipient of the 20th Annual G. Lucius Cary Award for Service and Leadership at their Board of Education annual meeting on Wednesday, April 5, 2023.

Wood’s professional career has included working with Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Rensselaer County Unified Services, and as a Social Worker at the Schodack Central School District, where she established many programs, including the Schodack Backpack program. Wood also volunteered with several organizations including Big Brothers/Big Sisters, the Girl Scouts, ANCHOR (Answering the Needs of Citizens with Handicaps through Organized Recreation), Quilts for Kids, House of Praise, and the Kiwanis Club.

“Patricia is a true testament to the Questar III mission of, ‘changing lives, realizing dreams and doing together what can’t be done alone,” said Dr. Gladys I. Cruz, Questar III BOCES District Superintendent. “She is a highly respected advocate of children and her contributions and commitment make her very worthy of this prestigious award.”

The G. Lucius Cary Award for Service and Leadership is named after former Questar III board member G. Lucius Cary and is considered the board’s highest honor. It is given in recognition of outstanding leadership and contributions through volunteer service, which are reflective of the values and beliefs of Questar III. Wood was nominated for her service and commitment to children.
