October is National Principal’s Month, and we’re introducing you to each of our building principals with a short Q&A. Danielle Remillard is the principal at George Washington School and also oversees our School Social Workers and School Psychologists.

Tell us about your “road to becoming a principal” – how did you end up in this role?
Before becoming a principal, I was a school psychologist. This provided me rich experience working with special education students in many leadership roles, becoming a principal was a natural next step.

What is your favorite part of your job?
My favorite part of the job is being with students and watching the great things they do in their classrooms. I am able to implement fun and exciting initiatives that supports student success.

How do you know that you are making an impact on your students?
Not only am I able to see improve academic skills, like reading and mathematics, I am able to see them develop their social and emotional skills. I am able to witness their growth in maturity.

What is one surprising thing about your job that most people wouldn’t expect?
Being a principal is fun! It allows me to watch students become excited over new experiences. It is wonderful watching them laugh, play and make friends.

What are some of your favorite things to do outside of work?
I love the outdoors. I love to run, hike, ski and bike. Also love to enjoy the company of my family and friends.
