K-4 students enjoy a Pizza Party on Feb. 2

There have been fun events all over George Washington School (GWS) this past month. We had our first Movie Day at GWS and what a success! For grades 3-6, students and parents were able to watch the movie “Wonder.” In grades K-2, students and parents learned about the Chinese New Year, sampled Chinese food and watched the movie “Mulan.” We celebrated the 100th day of school with fun activities and a costume contest. Students enjoyed new groups including Beauty, Art, and Cooking clubs!

The GWS is continuing to focus on academics by kicking off the month of March with a literacy spirit week. This coincides with Reading Across America Week. Classrooms are focusing on the wonderful works of Dr. Seuss with some fun events including Hat Day and Wacky Wednesday! We have also adopted a new math curriculum, Pearson’s Envisions 2.0.

Our Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) skill of the month for March is: It’s Ok to Make Mistakes. Students earn marbles for demonstrating the skill of the month. When our marble jar is full we have a schoolwide celebration…we are almost there! Please encourage your child to earn those marbles!

Questar III is looking for parent volunteers to review Questar III School Safety and Attendance Policies. If interested, please contact our office at 518-283-5752 or Denise Geyer at 518-479- 6883. The first meeting is scheduled for March 14th at 3 p.m. at the Questar III Main Office, 10 Empire State Blvd, Castleton NY 12033. This is a wonderful way to be involved in your child’s educational program.

NYS Assessments

New York State’s annual Grades 3-8 English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics exams are coming soon. These exams are designed to measure how well students are mastering the learning standards that guide classroom instruction and help to ensure that students are on track to graduate from high school with the critical thinking, problem solving, and reasoning skills needed for success in today’s world.
The NYS Education Department produced a FAQ sheet with useful information about these assessments. You can also visit this website for more parent information.
