Rotary ClubQuestar III’s Columbia-Greene Educational Center recently hosted a luncheon for Hudson’s Rotary Club catered by Chef Peter Desmond, Teaching Assistant Laurie Sweeney and Culinary Arts students.

Heather Lansing, co-principal of CGEC, welcomed the club and described the various programs available to local students, from career and technical education (CTE) to special education.

RotaryStudents from the HVAC/R and Construction Technologies programs were invited to share their experiences working with Habitat for Humanity every Friday from September to February.

One-by-one, students described how they volunteered to build a new home on Columbia Street and the various tasks they helped with, from installing the heating systems to cutting and soldering pipes.

Construction Technologies Teacher Bill Ebel said this experience gave his students the chance to learn how to work with a crew, something that will help them in the future.

Mary Andrus, the building’s work-based learning coordinator, discussed how student internships support classroom learning and how these experiences help students learn by working alongside professional in the field.

Lynn Seftner, Questar III’s career development specialist, thanked the Rotary Club for the generous scholarship they provide to Questar III students at Columbia-Greene Educational Center each year.

She also discussed upcoming events such as the school’s annual Cruise-In, which will take place on Friday, May 11. The Cruise-In features a variety of classic cars and tractors with music and a barbecue provided by Questar III’s Culinary Arts students.

Recruiter Christine Perry provided Rotary members with information on Questar III’s adult education courses and how the organization partners with Columbia-Greene Community College to deliver community education classes.

RotaryQuestar III’s Adult and Continuing Education program strives to meet the needs of the adults in the community through literacy training programs, CTE, community education classes, and training for business and industry.
