New Visions: Medical students from the Red Team earned a first place finish.
The Questar III BOCES New Visions: Medical students participated in a Case Competition offered by the Mentorship through Case Discussion Learning Activity with the Upstate Medical University Rural Medical Scholars Program. Learning modules were created and delivered by a team of medical students from the Rural Medical Scholars Program with the goal of each team demonstrating their understanding of the learning materials through the competition, focused on a clinical case: Lyme disease.
Seven teams from four BOCES locations across New York State competed, with Questar III BOCES teams taking both first and third place. Topics for the competition included patient interview and exam skills, risk factors for Lyme disease, and social determinants of health, related to Lyme disease.
The competition was also a great opportunity for our New Visions students to work with a team of first-year medical student mentors. The mentors delivered lectures related to the case, held virtual office hours to answer questions, and helped them prepare for the competition.
