Marilyn A. Noonan School at Durham will be closed on Tuesday, January 9, 2024.

Over the weekend, a fuel gauge on the supply line of a boiler failed, releasing fuel oil onto the floor of the boiler room. A professional remediation company was contacted immediately to clean the spill and scrub the air. We also contacted the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) who was satisfied with our response and chose not to visit the school. The decision to close school on Monday, January 8, 2024, was due to an odor from the spill.

We currently have several air scrubbers working to remove the odor from the air. As we continue to let them work, out of an abundance of caution, the decision was made to close school again on Tuesday, January 9, 2024. Classes are expected to resume on Wednesday, January 10, 2024.

The safety and comfort of our students and staff are our number one priority as we work to resolve this issue. We strive to provide clean, safe learning environments for everyone in our school.
