On Tuesday, June 23, 24 Questar III Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) students graduated at a ceremony held at Ichabod Crane High School. These students can now work as LPNs and some have already been accepted into Registered Nursing (RN) programs at local colleges.
Questar III’s program, based at its Rensselaer Educational Center as well as at Hudson High School, is a full-time 10.5-month LPN program is comprised of 1,188 hours of classroom and clinical instruction. This challenging and demanding program utilizes a hands-on approach to learning, which promotes better understanding of the curriculum and the nursing process. Upon successful completion of the LPN program, students are eligible to take the NCLEX-PN exam.
Theresa Coppola from the Troy-based program is going on to RN School at Samaritan School of Nursing and said she’s wanted to be a nurse since she was young. She chose Questar III’s program because it fit into her schedule.
“You live and breathe it for 10 months,” said Coppola. “But we got to see so many clinical sites including endoscopy, operating room and wound care – and I thought it was just going to nursing homes!”
Aubry Dingman, the valedictorian from Troy, also plans on continuing her education and has been accepted in the RN program at Hudson Valley Community College. She said completing Questar III’s LPN program will benefit her at HVCC.
“Questar III’s program was a great start so I can go to work as an LPN while in RN school,” said Dingman. “I’ll already have lots of credits and I can skip Nursing I.”
