Coming from a family of nurses, the decision to complete the Questar III BOCES’ Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) program was a logical choice for Taylor Russell. Now currently enrolled in the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Program based at Hudson High School, the 18-year-old Philmont native is learning the skills she needs to be successful in a high-demand nursing career.

Russell, who is interested in geriatrics, said she hopes to get a job at a nursing home after she completes the course and takes the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN).

“The course is really directed at preparing you for the exam,” said Russell. “It’s a very intense course but so worth it because you’re done in 10 months and you get exactly what you came in for.”

Russell went on to say that this includes hands-on skills specific to nursing practices but also other 21st century skills such a communication, critical in the health care field when speaking to and delivering information to patients.

“The classes are small and the teachers are really focused on everyone’s success.”
