New Visions

New Visions students gain valuable insight into career options from a real-world perspective. A 1-year, honors-level program, New Visions turns area businesses, healthcare facilities, and government buildings into classrooms for highly motivated, academically successful high school seniors.

For 3.5 hours each day, New Visions students learn and explore through mentoring, internships, interactions with professionals, group discussion, and creative projects, as well as more traditional methods. New Visions students earn four academic credits, including one credit each for English and social studies and two elective credits. They also may earn college credit, and the program is a proven asset on transcripts and college applications.

• Emergency Preparedness, Informatics, Cyber, and Homeland Security (EPICH) – University at Albany, Albany
• HYRBDIGE: Law – Virtual
• Medical – Samaritan Hospital, Troy and Columbia-Greene Community College, Hudson
• Pathways in Education – University at Albany, Albany
• Scientific Research and World Health – University at Albany’s Health Sciences Campus, Rensselaer
• STEM – Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy
• Visual and Performing Arts – The Arts Center of the Capital Region, Troy

Enrollment Timeline:

1. January: Attend a New Visions Parent Information Night and meet the teacher.
2. January-February: Complete the online application, which includes essay questions and recommendations.
3. February-March: Participate in a program visit and interview.
4. Mid-April: Questar III finalizes the recommendations for admissions and sends applicants their admissions decisions through the high school counseling offices.

References

Be sure to obtain permission from your references before listing them on your application. When you ask an adult to provide you with a reference, please obtain their correct email address and daytime phone number. Inform your references about the program you are applying to and explain what you hope to gain by participating. Once you have submitted your application, your references will be contacted via email and asked to complete an online reference form.

After submitting your application, check with your references to confirm they received the email request for the online form. Notify the CTE Coordinator immediately if your references do not receive this request. Note: You will not be able to see what your references say about you.

Email is our primary communication method for notifying prospective applicants about the online application, open houses, program visitation days, and interviews. Once you have shown interest in New Visions, check your email regularly, including your spam folder.
