This spring, Questar III BOCES matched 29 students with 24 local businesses as part of their Youth Apprenticeship Program. This program allows students to earn a minimum of 200 hours of paid, on the job training the summer between their junior and senior year. It’s also an opportunity to network with potential post-graduation employers while showcasing their skills, professionalism, and dedication to their trade.
This program is open to Automotive Technology, Construction Technology, Electrical Trades, Heavy Equipment Operations and Maintenance, HVAC, and Welding students. Students must be in good standing in their program and participate in an application and interview process.
Since the program’s inception in 2021, 118 students have participated in the program with 56 different businesses across 5 counties. Many students exceed the required 200 hours and stay on for employment through their senior year and/or post graduation. Many businesses return year after year, seeing this program as a pipeline for young, driven employees who are eager to learn, work, and succeed.
