Adult CDL Instruction

CDL Classroom Instruction- Permit Test Prep- 16 Hours

This course is designed to assist students in preparing for the written Commercial Learners Permit test with the Department of Motor Vehicles.  The permit test is the first step a student needs to take to receiving their CDL. During this time students will be given a CDL permit test manual and the instructor will review all material with them.  They will also spend time running through safety checks with the dump trucks and preparing for all pre-driving test components. There is no prerequisite or prior experience needed to take this course. For more information on permit and CDL requirements, visit the NYS DMV website.

Driving Safely
Transporting Cargo Safely
Air Brakes
Combination Vehicles
Pre-Trip Inspection Test
Basic Vehicle Control Test

Requirements:

You must be 21 years old or older to obtain a Class A License.
You must be 18 years old or older to obtain a Class B License.

Course Schedule:

Tuesday and Thursday evenings from Sept.17th – Oct 10th
3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Location: Rensselaer Educational Center

Tuition: $200

Additional Endorsement Classroom Instruction: Students can opt to seek additional DMV endorsements over and above the standard CDL B. Each session is an add-on and can be done individually or all together. Each session is $50.00

October 15 – Transporting Passengers Safely
October 17 – Doubles and Triples
October 22 – Tank Vehicles
October 24, 29 – Hazardous Materials (two sessions- $100.00 total)

Driving Instruction: Class B – 16 Hours

Class B driving class is intended to provide the student with 1 on 1 driving instruction time in a Kenworth dump truck.  All students are required to attend the introductory session for this course for a two-hour classroom refresher to review all safety information and operational theory needed to pass the Department of Motor Vehicles CDL B license exam.  After this initial two-hour meeting students will schedule their individual driving time with the instructor as schedules allow. The student will receive up to 13 hours of 1 on 1 driving time with the CDL instructor to prepare them to take the CDL road test.

Requirements:

Be 18 years of age or older
Possess a CDL B Learner Permit
Have passed their D.O.T physical

Course Schedule:

2-hour introductory session is September 18th, 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.  Individual driving time schedules are set up at this meeting.

Location: Rensselaer Educational Center

Tuition: $1,200

Driving Instruction: Class A – 24 Hours

CDL A 24-hour driving course follows the same structure as the CDL B driving course, but the truck has a trailer attached making it a combination vehicle, appropriate for a CDL A exam. Because of the complexity of this driving test, more driving time is provided.

Requirements:

Be 21 years of age or older
Possess a CDL A Learner Permit OR a CDL B
Have passed their D.O.T. physical

Course Schedule:

2-hour introductory session is September 18th, 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.  Individual driving time schedules are set up at this meeting.

Location: Rensselaer Educational Center

Tuition: $2,000

Additional Packages:

Extra Driving Time:  Students may purchase additional hours of 1 on 1 driving time with the CDL instructor. $100/hour

Use of Questar III Dump Truck for Road Test:  Students may choose to use the Kenworth dump truck for their CDL road test.  The CDL instructor will drive the truck to and from the testing location for this purpose. $350.00
