Questar III BOCES would like to congratulate Sam Mozzillo for winning the Peter R. Marsh Foundation High School Silent Servant Scholarship Award!

Sam is a senior in the EMT and Health Careers program at the Donald R. Kline Technical School in Hudson, NY & is from Coxsackie-Athens Central School District. Sam first became interested in this program after following in his father’s footsteps & becoming a volunteer firefighter. Sam joined the Athens Fire Department in 2020 & has since completed the 80-hour NYS Basic Exterior Fire Operation Course for his department.

In addition to the countless volunteer hours with training, drills, meetings & calls for Athens Fire Department, he also volunteers with the Coxsackie Rescue Squad, an extension of his program at Donald R. Kline Technical School. This volunteer opportunity allows him to continue learning the emergency lifesaving skills in real life situations, all while preparing for the NYS EMT exam.

As if volunteering and preparing to graduate high school isn’t enough, Sam also works part time at McDonald’s in Coxsackie, NY. On November 9, 2022 while at work, Sam noticed a customer in distress. He sprung into immediate action, performing a rapid assessment to determine the customer was choking. Sam immediately performed the Heimlich maneuver to free the food stuck in the customer’s airway. A local EMS agency responded and confirmed that due to Sam’s quick action, the customer was able to go home without any permanent damage. Sam saved a life.

Questar III BOCES EMT and Health Careers instructor Greg Fox nominated Sam for the Peter R. Marsh Foundation High School Silent Servant Scholarship Award for his continued commitment and dedication to his community. We are very proud of Sam for being an exemplary student and member of our school community!

The Peter R. Marsh Foundation High School Silent Servant Scholarship Award awards scholarships to high school students for their service to their communities. This scholarship is unique compared to others in that it rewards students for benevolence, a behavior and set of values that will sustain their families and communities for decades to come.
