National Grid has provided a Workforce Development Grant of approximately $100,000 to Questar III BOCES for the purchase of two heavy equipment operator training simulators for its Robert H. Gibson Technical School in Troy.

The simulators will enable students to simulate operation of an excavator, wheel loader, backhoe, articulated dump truck, dozer, and grader. An instructor station is also part of the simulator package. Other features allow the operator to change the climate and the day vs. night environment during the simulation.

“We are extremely grateful to National Grid for the generous support they are providing, which will enable our students to train on the type of heavy equipment vehicles they may be operating in future employment,” said Questar III BOCES District Superintendent Gladys Cruz. “National Grid has been a terrific partner and our students benefit tremendously from the company’s support.”

National Grid Regional Executive Laurie Poltynski said, “Many of the skills students learn at Questar III BOCES are those that make a successful employee, and our partnership helps ensure future employees get the right training. We know this award will help prepare the next generation of National Grid employees.”

The Workforce Development Grant is part of Nationals Grid’s Project C initiative, a program designed to transcend convention and Create a more equitable future… for every Customer, in every Community it serves.
