The following message was sent to families at Columbia-Greene Educational Center:

Yesterday, Questar III administration and law enforcement authorities responded to an allegation that there would be a violent incident at our Columbia-Greene Educational Center on Friday. The comment was overhead by one of our students during dismissal, who immediately reported the concern to the school’s main office.

Immediately upon learning of this, Questar III administration contacted the New York State Police as well as the Columbia County Sheriff’s Department, who launched an investigation into the statement.

Thanks to the attention and assistance of our school community, we were able to determine the source of the comments that were made. School administration identified the individual and State Police interviewed the student last night.    Through investigation, at this time, the New York State Police have determined the threat to not be credible.

The incident will continue to be handled appropriately by the police department and Questar III BOCES and any additional information will be shared as soon as it is available. We understand that that there may still be concern based upon the alleged threat. Out of an abundance of caution and to reassure the importance of safety to both students and staff, there will be an increased law enforcement presence on campus on Friday.

We are grateful for the attentiveness of our students, the work of our staff and the assistance we received from law enforcement yesterday afternoon and evening. We also wish to remind everyone that all allegations or threats of violence against our students and staff will be taken seriously and investigated fully.

This is an opportunity to remind students about the importance of speaking up if they need help or see/hear anything out of the ordinary. As always thank you for your continued partnership working to ensure a safe environment for both students and staff.  school and BOCES personnel are available to answer any questions.

Please enjoy the remainder of today’s holiday and take the time to reflect on the Veterans who put their lives at risk to protect our democratic values.
