Students at the George Washington School celebrated Earth Day in a multitude of ways.

Students have been diligently working on Earth Day projects throughout the week where they expressed what they thought the most serious environmental problem is, identified ways to help save the Earth, created Earth-friendly art and more. Students engaged in a recycling activity where they learned to sort items in their correct recycling bins. Items were split among plastic, compost, paper and glass/metal.

They have been hard at work beautifying the school’s courtyard planting tulips, raking leaves, filling bird feeders and more.

Students got a visit from a representative of County Waste and Recycling, one of the region’s largest recycling and waste management companies. County Waste and Recycling taught students what can and cannot be recycled, what happens to items such as plastic when they are not recycled and the importance of recycling. Students had the opportunity to sit inside the County Waste and Recycling truck and honk the horn.
