Monday morning, local journalist and author John Gray joined students at George Washington School and the Paul Puccio School at Maple Hill virtually to read his latest children’s book, “Keller’s Heart” and share its message of acceptance.

The book is based on his own dog, Keller, who is blind and deaf, and tells the story of Keller being abandoned on the train tracks before finding love from a young girl named Raven who is also deaf. Raven teaches Keller sign language and the two show others that it is ok to be different and that everyone needs a friend.

After reading the book, Gray answered several questions about how he interacts with a dog who is blind, how many dogs he has and how they help take care of Keller, and what it is like reading the news on television.

The book’s dedication reads: “For any child who has ever felt different, alone, or faced special challenges. You are unique. You are beautiful. You are loved.”

Thank you Mr. Gray for taking the time to share this important message with our students!
