A message from Ms. Remillard:

The school year is off to a fun and exciting start at George Washington School (GWS). We are looking forward to a year full of learning, friendships and fun! At GWS we incorporate our Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) into our educational program. Students are provided extra incentives for their demonstration of our 3 B’s: Be Respectful, Be in Control and Be Ready to Learn. Students are rewarded at assemblies, with exclusive breakfasts/lunches, points and other special events. At our PBIS Assembly this month, we will be celebrating students using the skill of the month “Be Your Best Self!”

We realize the importance of family and community involvement and we will continue to host our Family Fun Nights and other fun events. It was wonderful meeting so many families at our Open House! Please refer to our monthly newsletter and website for important dates and information.

Please be advised that we follow the Averill Park School Calendar for school closings and delays. In addition to this, we will be providing memos and notes home as reminders for closings, so please be sure to check your child’s bookbag. We will also be using the School Messenger System to relay important information via phone call, text message and email. Please feel free to call our main office at 518-283-5752 with any questions.

Students in Mrs. Downs’ room are making slime! Many students use slime as a sensory break.

Therapy dogs visit GWS every other week. This young man is enjoying a visit from Chewbacca.

Healthy Snack Choices at GWS

At GWS we encourage healthy food choices for our students. While we appreciate you sending in snacks with your child, we ask that they are provided with snacks that support a healthy eating plan. Please keep in mind that students are not allowed to have soda or energy drinks at school.

Along with this newsletter is a printout from American Academy of Pediatrics on Choosing Healthy Snacks for Kids. This organization provides a wealth of information about raising healthy children. You can access the site here.
