On March 20th, CTE students from SkillsUSA teams at Columbia-Greene Educational Center in Hudson and Rensselaer Educational Center in Troy competed against CTE students from Capital Region BOCES, WSWHE BOCES and Champlain Valley Educational Services at this year’s Regional SkillsUSA Competition

Held annually at Schenectady County Community College, students practice and train for months for the opportunity to enter competitions that demonstrate their technical, academic and leadership abilities. Teachers and staff assist with coaching and preparing students to be ready to compete. In addition, SkillsUSA members work on fundraising projects during the year to raise money to pay for competitions and participate in community service activities.

The contests can be directly related to a Career/Technical Program, such as Carpentry, Commercial Baking, Crime Scene Investigation and Cosmetology or academics such as Related Technical Math. Students can also enter competitions that test their leadership skills such as Job Interview, Prepared Speech or Job Skills Demonstration.
