Retired Questar III Board Member Carol Orvis received the “Friends of Education” award from CASDA February 28.

On February 28, retired Questar III Board Member Carol Orvis was honored as a “Friend of Education” by the Capital Area School Development Association (CASDA). The award recognizes individuals who impact their schools in various ways but are united in their commitment to enrich the lives of students.

At the third annual Friends of Education awards dinner at the Albany Marriot Hotel, Orvis was one of 16 to receive the award, including Questar III Board Member Frank Zwack, who also serves as the Board President at Berlin CSD.

Orvis was recognized for her service to the Questar III Board of Education, as well as her past service on the East Greenbush CSD School Board, including time as its president. She has advocated for expanded STEM programming, providing more diverse content and enrichment opportunities for students. They also recognized her dedication through her work as Vice President of the Questar III Education Foundation and Executive Vice President of the Hudson Valley Girl Scout Council.

Questar III District Superintendent Dr. Gladys I. Cruz praised Orvis for her decades of service and dedication to students in our region.

“Because of Carol’s service to both the Questar III and East Greenbush CSD Boards of Education, students in this region have many more opportunities and avenues to explore throughout their educational careers. It has been a true honor to collaborate with her and ensure we are providing the very best for our students,” said Cruz.

Orvis has a total of 54 years of service to local school boards, serving on East Greenbush CSD Board from 1977-1992, the Questar III Board from 1990-2018, and the Tech Valley High School Operating Board from 2007-2018.
