A message from Ms. Remillard:

What an exciting month at George Washington School. Winter seems to have come early as we already had two snow days!  In order to relay information about school closings as quickly as possible, we place closings on local news stations and provide phone calls, text messages and emails through our School Messenger system. Please note that we follow Averill Park School Districts for school closings.

Our Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) Skill of the Month for November was “Gratitude Attitude.” Our Level 4 and Primary Party rewarded students who consistently demonstrate our 3 Bs with a lunch.  We celebrated our Thanksgiving Feast and we were also grateful to have HMA contracting and the YMCA give thanksgiving meals to each student at GWS.

This month’s parenting workshop will be held on December 18th at 9 a.m.  We will be having a special guest speaker from the Mental Health Association of New York State (MHANYS) presenting “Mental Health and Wellness 101.”  Please try to attend and encourage fellow parents/guardians to join. We will also be sending home a flyer. Hope to see you there!

We had a special lunch for students with exceptional behavior. We saw lots of smiles!

Students practiced yoga at our PBIS Assembly – this is a valuable way to cope with stress!

This month we celebrated Thanksgiving at GWS!  The GW family sat together to enjoy a meal prepared and served by GWS faculty.  It was a very special meal reminding us all that we have a lot to be grateful for!

Monthly Literacy Tips for Parents

To promote language development, try coloring, writing and drawing with your child. Give them materials such as crayons, and colored pencils. Be sure to have them tell you about their project.
