A message from Ms. Remillard:
The month of October has brought many fun events to GWS. We celebrated our first Spirit Week which included fun events, fall fest activities, a costume parade and a PBIS Assembly! We also experienced our first field trip to Goold’s Orchard, learned crucial fire safety tips from Mountainview Fire department, and practiced our first lockdown drill.
Our Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) Skill of the Month for October was “Be a Buddy Not a Bully.” We celebrated our first Level 4 and Primary Party which rewarded students who consistently demonstrate our 3 Bs. They enjoyed a special party with a donut and cider treat! In November, we will be focusing on “Gratitude Attitude” and students will have fun activities to promote the value of being thankful. We are also excited to announce that HMA Contracting will again be donating complete Thanksgiving meals to all GWS students and their families. Please expect these baskets to be coming home on November 19th.
This month’s parenting workshop will be held on November 14th at 9 am. We will be having a special guest speaker from the Mental Health Association of New York State (MHANYS) presenting “Mental Health and Wellness 101.” Please try to attend and encourage fellow parents/guardians to join. We will also be sending home a flyer. Hope to see you there!
Our Fall Fest was full of fun activities for our students. We had centers for face painting, pumpkin decorating, fun snacks and PE games! Pictured above and center are students showcasing their pumpkins!
Also at Fall Fest, students made popcorn hands with candy corn (above)

Monthly Literacy Tips for Parents
A great way to promote reading with your child is to READ BOOKS TOGETHER. Be sure to ask questions as you read and give your child time to respond. When you read: explain difficult words, explain novel words, describe new ideas and explain the structure of stories.
