Intermediate students work with Ozobots. These small robots provide students with fun STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) activities!

The month of May began with students completing the NYS Math exam from May 1st-3rd.  Just as with the ELA exam, I am confident students did a wonderful job! At the end of May, students in grade 4 and 8 will participate in NY State Science test.  Again, we ask for your help to ensure your child is getting a good night’s sleep, arriving on time daily and encouraging them to work hard to show all the wonderful things they have learned in school.

Our Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) skill of the month for May is Be a Worry Warrior! Students will learn how to fight worry with strategies such as talking about it and having positive thoughts! Also, at our last PBIS assembly, students earned enough marbles for their schoolwide party! The celebration will be towards the end of May!

GWS has many fun events planned for the end of the year.  Most students will be traveling to the Children’s Museum of Science and Technology.  They will be participating in workshops about animal life cycles and chemical/physical changes. The Music Mobile will also be visiting and gives students the chance to make their own instrument and perform for the school!  The GWS talent show May 17th will showcase some real student flair!

Miss Lounsbury’s students study Pascal’s Law – the movement of fluid pressure during science.

Miss Kirker’s class celebrated Earth Day (April 22) by making bird feeders!

As the weather becomes more beautiful, we will be reminding students of recess and playground expectations. Students will be rewarded with special Gotchas and prizes when they show exceptional playground behavior.
