A message from the Principal, Miss Remillard

This is the first George Washington School (GWS) Newsletter. This monthly newsletter will be presenting the fun and exciting events going on here at George Washington School. It is also our hope to present useful information to families, so we can support the success of all students.

February marks the beginning of the 3rd quarter for students and the school year is half way done! For our youngest grades K-2, we are focusing on essential literacy, mathematical and social skills. For grades 3-6, we are building upon these skills to ensure students are ready for understanding in English Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies and Science.

Did you know that all parents and guardians have access to their child’s records online through the parent portal on SchoolTool? This includes your child’s report cards and progress reports. Please see attached letter and directions for more information!

Here our Intermediate students are enjoying their special Level 4 Lunch! Students on Level 4 consistently follow our three B’s: Be Respectful, Be in Control and Be Ready to Learn. Today was a TACO PARTY!

At GWS we incorporate our Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) into our educational program. Students are provided extra incentives for demonstration of our 3 B’s: Be Respectful, Be in Control and Be Ready to Learn. Students are rewarded at assemblies, with exclusive breakfasts/lunches, points and other special events. At our PBIS Assembly this month, we will be celebrating students using the skill of the month “Have Fun and Play Fair,” celebrate monthly birthdays and award prizes from our GOTCHA drawing.

On February 15th, we will be having a Movie Day at GWS. Parents are invited to come and watch a selected movie with their child. This is a great time to visit your child’s school and be a part of our school family. Popcorn and drinks will be provided. This promises to be a fun event and we hope to see you here!

Skill of the Month

January’s skill of the month was MINDFULNESS. Students practiced strategies to manage stress. Students used techniques such as taking deep breaths, counting to ten and staying in the moment.

February’s skill of the month is HAVE FUN AND PLAY FAIR. Students will be focusing on Sportsmanship. GWS will be having a school-wide competition related to the 2018 Olympic games. Let’s see which classroom can show the greatest sportsmanship
