Shauna MaynardEach month, we introduce you to a member of our staff with a short Q&A. This month, we meet Shauna Maynard, who recently joined our Special Education team in a new role.

What is your role here at Questar III, and where do you work?
Special Education Coordinator

How long have you worked here?
One month

How do you see your role as supporting the BOCES and its school districts?
I support component districts by overseeing the referral and intake process for prospective students in our special education programs. I serve as the contact for districts and parents to review our programs and provide guidance and support to district staff regarding services and placement opportunities. I work closely with our Director of Special Education, principals and staff to develop and maintain programs to meet students’ individual needs.

What is your background like – previous jobs, education, etc.?
Prior to coming to Questar III, I have been a School Psychologist and Instructional Support Team Coordinator at Guilderland CSD and Coxsackie-Athens CSD. I am a proud graduate of the Sage Colleges and The College of Saint Rose. I currently hold NYS Certification in Building and District Level Educational Leadership and School Psychology. I have been actively involved in the New York Association of School Psychologists, serving as a board member, as well as teaching in the School Psychology graduate program at Saint Rose. I will always be a School Psychologist at heart, and am looking forward to bringing that expertise to assist with program development for our students with special needs.

What do you like most about your job?
I find it very rewarding to work with so many districts and to be able to provide guidance at a systemic level. Providing support and making a difference in children’s lives at a broader scale is something I value. The staff here at Questar III have been wonderful to work with and I am looking forward to my future here.

Tell us a bit about your life outside of Questar III.
My husband and I have a two-year old daughter and who we love spending time with. We also have a boxer pup. Spending time with family and friends is very important to me, and we try to do it as often as possible. Favorite activities include camping, dancing, and simply enjoying the company of others.
