Questar III is excited to announce that Dr. Abby Reisman, former director of the “Reading Like a Historian” Project at Stanford University, will lead an interactive workshop on October 5, 2017 for grade 6 through 12 social studies educators. The full day workshop will focus on the design of document-based lessons in history that align with the new Global History and Geography II Regents exam.

This interactive session will allow participants to learn and practice strategies that make primary sources accessible to all students. Participants will engage in exercises focused on formulating generative historical questions, selecting and preparing primary sources for struggling readers, and facilitating document-based discussion.

Participants will learn and practice modeling strategies that can be used with students to cultivate their ability to read, analyze and contextualize primary source documents. The activities will allow educators to develop techniques that can be used to build student competency at interpreting documents.  Strategies align specifically with the skills needed for students to be successful on the new Global Regents exam.

Educators interested in identifying methods for building student competency in the social studies practices and ensuring students are successful on the new exam are strongly encouraged to attend.

Teachers have two registration options on MyLearningPlan via the links below.  Educators can sign up for the one day learning experience on October 5, or they can sign up for the October 5 workshop and a November 16 follow up session.  The follow up session on November 16, will be facilitated by the Questar III Social Studies Specialist, will enable participants to apply their learning to develop lesson plans aligned to the NYS Social Studies Framework.  Educators in the process of aligning their curriculum to meet the demands of the New Global History and Geography II Regents Exam are encouraged to attend.
