Congressman Chris Gibson at the 2012 Career Expo. This year’s event will be held Tuesday, May 7, 2013.

Students in grades 7-12, parents, educators and the community are invited to learn about exciting careers for the future at Career Expo 2013. Career Expo 2013, to be held on Tuesday, May 7, 2013 from 5-8 p.m. at Birch Hill in Castleton, NY, will focus on careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math). Questar III BOCES and Catskill, Greenville, Ichabod Crane, Rensselaer City and Schodack Central School Districts will be hosting the Career Expo, along with the Center for Economic Growth.

This free, interactive event will feature representatives from many careers who will show real-life examples of how science and technology affect all professions and also will provide information about local educational opportunities.

Schodack CSD Superintendent Bob Horan said the Career Expo aligns well with his district’s increased focus on Science, Technology, Engineering and Math, including a STEM Day the district held for students in grades 4-8 in January.

“We are once again thrilled to co-host this event at Birch Hill in Schodack,” said Mr. Horan. “School districts are integrating STEM into their curriculum more and more so this event is a great way for students and their parents to learn about emerging careers in these fields.”

In addition to exhibitors, there will be two panel presentations called High Demand Careers from 5:30-6 p.m. and from 6-6:30 p.m.

The Career Expo is sponsored by Questar III and the Tech Valley Career Pathways Consortium. This event is made possible by the New York State Education Department with federal funding under the Carl Perkins Vocational and Applied Education Improvement Act of 2006.
