A record-number 83 teams will compete in this year’s regional Odyssey of the Mind tournament on Saturday, March 10 at Rensselaer City School District.
Questar III is seeking volunteer support for Friday evening, March 9 and Saturday, March 10. Positions range from merchandise sales and competition scoring on tournament day to set-up Friday night. New volunteers will receive a special t-shirt (returning volunteers should wear the one they received last year).
If you’re interested in volunteering for a 2-hour, 4-hour or all-day shift, please register online by clicking here. Organizers will contact you about your assignment 2 weeks before the event.
A worldwide tournament coordinated locally by Questar III, Odyssey of the Mind provides students of all ages and abilities with the chance to produce creative, if not unconventional, solutions to problems with no single correct answer.
Throughout the school year, student teams work together to solve open-ended problems that range from building mechanical devices to presenting clever and unusual interpretations of literary classics.
Competing against same-age teams in elementary, middle and high school divisions, the teams are judged on their problem-solving skills, teamwork and creativity before a panel of judges.
Each year, dozens of teams advance to the state-level tournament. In 2011, 3 local teams advanced to the world finals. This marked the fifth year in a row that at least 1 team from Rensselaer, Columbia and Greene counties advanced to international competition.
