Exploring green technologies

Brendon Monk

Two weeks after completing the two-year Constructive Technologies program at Questar III's Columbia-Greene Educational Center in Hudson, Brendon Monk landed a job in the field.

Monk works full-time as an energy auditor and weatherization technician for Columbia Opportunities, Inc., a not-for-profit serving income eligible people through the Home Energy Assistance Program.

The Hudson High School graduate credits training he received at Questar III for giving him a head start in his field. “Everything I learned in school, I’m applying in my job. I work with my hands and my head.”

Certified by the New York State Builders’ Association, Questar III’s construction program gives students a chance to earn industry licensing and explore “green” building technologies.

Monk received Home Energy Analyst and Technician (HEAT) certification thanks to a partnership with Hudson Valley Community College’s Workforce Development Institute.
