Spectrum Program

The new Questar III Spectrum Program will provide students on the autism spectrum with opportunities to work towards achieving a Regents high School diploma while strengthening their social and emotional skills. The Spectrum Program for the 2011-2012 school year will be located at Rensselaer City Schools. Students will be mainstreamed for as much of their school day as appropriate in regular academic courses with additional academic support being provided within the Spectrum classroom. Students will be provided with a social skills group designed particularly for students on the autism spectrum. Questar III’s Spectrum Program includes: physical education or adaptive physical education, if appropriate, (3x40 group), social worker support (1x30 group), and psychologist support. Behavior specialist support, and psychiatric consultation are available on as needed basis. The Spectrum class is eight students per one teacher and two teaching assistants (8:1:2). The Spectrum program is a full day and runs September through June, with extended year program as an option.
